Widespread damages and power outages reported throughout town

A tornado has been reported in the Village of Montgomery, causing widespread damage in the town and village of Montgomery, as well as Maybrook. 

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus announced Thursday night, that a state of emergency has been declared in the Village of Montgomery, with all village residents ordered to shelter in place until 6 a.m.Friday morning

Residents in need of help or would like to report damage are urged to please reach out to your local emergency service agencies or call 911.

Town of Montgomery Supervisor Brian Maher reported that NYSEG & Central Hudson crews are out fixing downed power lines and cutting up trees, working hard to restore power. Central Hudson, on Friday, reported that approximately 7,400 customers were without electricity, the vast majority of which are in Orange County (5,897 in Orange and 1,072 in Uster, with the remainder in Dutchess.)

“Thursday’s storms brought damaging wind, hail and unconfirmed reports of a tornado in the Montgomery and Maybrook area of Orange County. Our crews worked into the night to restore power to customers as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Ryan Hawthorne, Assistant Vice President of President of Electric Engineering and Operations at Central Hudson. “We have field force of approximately 350 line and tree workers who will be addressing repairs throughout the day.”

No serious injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The Village of Maybrook also eepoted widespread damages and power outtages, with Route 208 closed until Thursday at 11:30 p.m. Mayor Dennis Leahy said Central Hudson crews were working in the village and that power was fully restored in the village as of 12:30 p.m.

By 5 p;m; Friday, both Central Hudson and NYSEG reported being near full restoration.
