VC's Staples wins OCIAA high jump

Bianca Staples won an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association championship on Saturday, leading the Valley Central girls’ indoor track team to a fifth-place finish at the Gillis Field House at West Point.

Staples won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch. She also finished second in the 300-meter dash with a time of 42.47.

Overall, the Vikings scored 35 points, while Pine Bush took eighth with 20 points. Chapel Field finished 13th with eight points.

Cornwall won the meet with 111 points.

Pine Bush also won a county championship in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:52.07.

Valley Central’s Ava Carsley was second in the girls’ 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:36.86.

Pine Bush’s Keyera Williams and Zoey Rodi finished third and fourth in the 55-meter dash with respective times of 7.71 and 7.73.

Valley Central’s Kelly O’Connor was fifth in the 1,500-meter relay in 5:01.61.
The Vikings 4x800-meter relay took third in 10:02.20 and the 4x400-meter relay was sixth in 4:27.67.

Chapel Field’s Shaylen Goslar finished fourth in both the 1,000-meter run in 3:10.05 and in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:00.57.

Boys
Brandon DeJesus won a championship for Pine Bush as the Bushmen finished fifth with 33 points. Monroe-Woodbury won the team title with 166 points.
Pine Bush’s Tyler Sorace was fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:26.27 and James Michael Vizzari was sixth in 1:27.31.

Pine Bush’s Connor Kodgis finished third in the boys’ shot put with a throw of 42-2 and Michael Fisher took third in the boys’ weight throw, reaching 57-5.50.
The Bushmen’s 4x800-meter relay team finished third with a time of 8:41.14.
