Village welcomes the holiday season

The first thing I’d like to say this month is I’m so sorry to Tony Marano for missing his 95th Birthday.

I received an email from his daughter Debbie telling me about the wonderful occasion. Tony, born and raised right here in Maybrook turned 95 years young on November 8th. Tony is a World War II and a member of VFW Post 2064. He loves talking to everyone, especially about his days working with the Railroad here in Maybrook. He has some amazing stories.
His daughter, his grandchildren Rob, Mike and Caitlin and the Villages of Maybrook and Montgomery want to wish him a very loud and heartwarming HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I hope you are all ready for the upcoming Holiday Season. We have a few events happening around the Village in the next several weeks.

We start with the Village of Maybrook Tree Lighting which has been postponed until Wednesday, December 4 at 7 p.m.It had originally been scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 1, but postponed when the weather forecast called for snow and ice. The festivities take place at the Maybrook Senior Center. Santa will arrive via one of Maybrook’s Fire Trucks.

There will be music by Maybrook’s own Boy Scout Band as well as the Maybrook 4H, Wind Ensemble and Kevin Cronin. Bring the kids and get their pictures with the Jolly Old Man! The Kiwanis will be on hand with a make and take craft for kids.

The George C Bullis Community Center will also be there collecting mittens, hats and scarves. You can also bring those items to the Community Center at 101 Main Street during regular business hours. There will be cookies and hot cocoa courtesy of Shoprite, face painting by Vaune Sherin and popcorn and prizes supplied by the Wallkill Valley Federal Savings Bank. Bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. The Maybrook VFW will have box for donations. There will be an opportunity to take some family pictures supplied by DJ E-Rock.

On Friday, December 13 the Maybrook Symphonic Wind Ensemble Holiday Merriment Concert will be held at their home base, the Maybrook Senior Center. It’s a free event open to everyone. They will accept donations at the door to help defray some of their costs. There will be light refreshments. This concert will surely get you into the Holiday Spirit.

Santa will also be making an appearance at the Maybrook VFW, 209 Main Street on Sunday, December 15th at 2pm. There will be games and treats and Santa usually gives out a gift to all the kids 8 years and younger. So bring the little ones and have some Holiday Fun.

The George C. Bullis Community Center will be hosting a “Polar Express” Holiday Party at the Community Room on December 19 at 12 noon. I hear it’s pretty awesome party for the kids. Call the Community Center at 845-427-2014 for more information.

The Maybrook VFW 2064 will help end the year with a New Year’s Party at the Post, 209 Main Street. You’ll dine on a steak dinner at 7 p.m. and dance til 1 a.m. on January 1, bringing in the New Year with a champagne toast, friends and helping Veterans at the same time. Cost is $40 per person. Call the Post at 845-427-5881 for more information and to make reservations. By the way, this is the night that the winning ticket is pulled for the VFW’s annual 50/50.
