Wallkill Fire Chief resigns

Last Wednesday, the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Wallkill Fire District held a special meeting where they accepted the resignation of Fire Chief Nick Walker. He served as chief for three years.

“I think with all the animosity in the firehouse and especially all the line officers and everything, I think he made the right decision by resigning at this time,” said Robert Malatesta, a firefighter and past first assistant chief.

Malatesta confirmed that on Monday evening, Joseph LoCicero, the Town of Shawangunk highway superintendent and president of the Wallkill Central School District Board of Education, was appointed as the new chief of the Wallkill Fire Department.

“I think that’s a great choice, he’s an absolutely great chief,” he said. “He was a great chief three years ago. He brought the morale back to the department and I hope he can do it again

Walker did not return calls from the Wallkill Valley Times for comment.

LoCicero could not be reached for comment by Tuesday’s deadline.
