Sam Rodriguez beat Rondout’s Medina Walters at the MHAL track and field championships Saturday in the 100-meter dash by a fraction of a second to win the event with a time of 12.65.
Rodriguez also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.96. Highland’s Danielle Quirk-Hall was close behind in second place. Wallkill’s Aneesa Canales was third in the event with a time of 26.50. Canales was also second on the 400-meter run with a time of 59.84.
Anna Coen was second in the high jump, and Angela Mayer was second in the girls’ pentathlon with 1,929 points, and the girls won the 400-meter relay with a time of 50.35.
The boys’ team also won the 400-meter relay with a time 44.35. Romaine Bird won the long jump when he covered 21-feet, 10-inches. Bird was second in the triple jump and third in the 100-meter dash.
Louis Martinez, who was fifth in the long and triple jumps, won the pole vault when he covered 14-feet. Anthony Nelson won the high jump for Walkill, covering 6-feet, 8-inches. Martinez was sixth in that event.
