Wedding bells for Walden Police Officer

I received information reflecting calls made by the Walden Fire Department for the month of August from Xander Macri, a Junior Fighter for the Walden Fire Department: Automatic Fire Alarms - 10; Motor Vehicle Accidents - 3; Wires down/burning/arcing - 2;Carbon Monoxide Alarm - 2; Controlled or illegal burn - 1; Fire incident - 1; Structure fire - 2; Mutual Aid - 1.
Xander also relates that the Walden Fire Department has a program for kids ages 14 and older, the Explorers. In this program participants are taught the basic principles of fire fighting, such as ladder training, how to properly use a SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus), hose skills PPE skills, how to operate a fire hydrant, and where on the fire trucks certain tools are and what they are used for. The second and fourth Thursday of every month the Explorer program is held at the fire department.
You can be an Explorer even if you are not eligible to join the fire department at that time. Once an Explorer turns 16, they have a choice to start as a junior probationary member of the fire department. From there they take a class called BEFO (Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations), where you are trained to become a certified exterior firefighter.Xander took this course and said without a doubt, that Explorers helped him get through the skills portion of the class very easily.
He has been in the program since age 14 and is currently waiting to become a senior firefighter when he turns age 18. He further related that this program is fun and educational and is run by awesome people who are willing to teach you all about being a firefighter and some life lessons. Thank you Xander for supplying this information.
