On Sunday, November 2, at 4:00 p.m., the Howland Chamber Music Circle will present the Akropolis Reed Quintet at the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street, Beacon, NY. The 2025 Grammy Award–winning Akropolis Reed Quintet is an innovative and internationally acclaimed ensemble featuring an oboist, saxophonist, bassoonist, and two clarinetists (bass and standard). Known for their bold sound and commitment to new works, the quintet has captivated audiences around the world and actively engages in K–12 and university-level educational outreach.
The program will include contemporary works by Ryan Lindveit, Oswald Huynh, and Derrick Skye, along with Raaf Hakema’s arrangement of George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.” Haakema, a Dutch saxophonist, is credited with founding the reed quintet genre 40 years ago, and both Akropolis and his ensemble Calefax are recognized as pioneers in the field.
Ticketing: A limited number of pay-what-you-wish tickets will be released one week prior to the performance, expanding access for music lovers.
