Hey arts and music and history enthusiasts: get out a pen and mark your calendars for quite a few fun events at the Cornwall Public Library, Adult Programming & Outreach Coordinator Brenda Winkler Goldfarb said this week. For some you need to sign up at the library website, cornwallpubliclibrary.org. She listed the programs:

Hot Wrk Ensemble: On Saturday, Oct. 5, from 1 - 2:15 p.m., Hot Wrk Ensemble will perform at Munger Cottage. Hot Wrk Ensemble is a local saxophone/woodwind and percussion trio, and award-winning jazz violinist Gwen Laster will be playing contemporary classical, jazz and more! You can register to attend on the library website, walk-ins okay as seating permits. (Hot Wrk Ensemble will also be at Washingtonville’s Moffat Library on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.)

Sharing Your Favorite Time of Year: On Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 1-3 p.m., join Susan Minier, nationally recognized collage maker, for a creative afternoon playing with colors and pictures to share your favorite month/time of year. What images or colors come to mind? Why is it special? Relate it to a special time in your life like a vacation or a place they loved going to. The main thing is to express how they feel by relating it to color or colors. They can also scan pictures and bring them to add to their collage. Register on the website; if registration is full, call the library at 845-534-8282 to be placed on the wait list.

Snap Savvy Smartphone Photography: On Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 1-2:30 p.m., Rebecca Kashinski will host an informative workshop to learn how to take a great shot on your smartphone; what editing to use, how to share, print and save them. Whether you’re totally new to photography, or a seasoned pro, there’s a lot to learn. Bring your fully charged smartphone to class. Small class size so please register early on the website.

Poetry Reading: On Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1:15-3:15 p.m. the library will host an afternoon with esteemed Orange County Poet Laureate J.R. Solonche as he reads selected poems from his critically acclaimed collection. Additionally, indulge in the poetic offerings of our talented Creative Writers Group. All ages welcome! This event is a drop-in program, no registration necessary.

The Five – Jack the Ripper and his Victims: At 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, presenter Cynthia Topps will reveal the untold stories of the “canonical victims” of Jack the Ripper. To most in Victorian London, they were just ‘prostitutes” or women of “low character.” But they were mothers, daughters and wives. The program will explore who they were as well as how and why they became Jack’s infamous victims. Space is limited; register on the website (opens October 1).

The Ladies of Normandy: Cornwall Public Library & Cornwall Historical Society will cohost this program on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Among the 9238 Crosses and 151 Stars of David in the Colleville-Sur-Mer Cemetery, Normandy, France, lies the graves of four American women. They served America, not in combat, but in auxiliary services to boost troop morale. Presenter Cynthia Topps will say who they were and about the organizations in which they served. Space is limited! Register on the website (opens October 15).
