America’s Electrical Grid

Posted

The recent natural disasters affecting Florida and elsewhere in our country as well as the devastation Putin has leveled onto the Ukrainian people with his scorched earth policies leaving people without electricity, water, fuel and food should be a wake-up call for our elected representatives to finally get serious about our Electrical Emergency Preparedness.  These natural and man-made disaster pale in comparison to what could destroy our electrical grid and throw America into darkness.

The recently signed into law H.R.3684 - Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act contains verbiage about research and development for “electromagnetic pulse and geo-magnetic disturbance resilience capabilities” but unless there is a concerted effort to focus and track progress with results, it might as well be another example of federal government’s sound and fury, signifying nothing. Such was the case for the May 12, 1981 GAO report “Federal Electrical Emergency Preparedness is Inadequate”. Over 40 years ago the problem was identified, and since that time our country is no safer from a disaster that would destroy our economy and potentially kill tens of millions of Americans.

The July 2017 Executive Report “Assessing the Threat from Electromagnetic Pulse” by the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack contains six recommendations that can be taken to address this potentially catastrophic disaster.

Take 12 minutes out of your schedule and watch the video that has been compiled by producer and director David Tice about this critical issue. It can be viewed by searching “Grid Down Power Up.”  Once seen I believe you will want to view the entire 56-minute movie. Nothing less than America’s future is at stake.
