Rotary to set new record with Day of Service
Rotary International is gearing up for its largest-ever ‘Day of Service’ on Saturday, May 18, with more than 30,000 Rotarians and community volunteers poised to make a difference across the Northeast United States, Bermuda, and Brazil.
The event, which will see participation from over 800 Rotary clubs, aims to tackle a variety of community needs, including collecting clothes for the homeless, refurbishing parks, and building shelters.
One notable project will take place at Cronomer Hill Park, located at 214 Gardnertown Rd., Newburgh, where volunteers will engage in habitat restoration along the Quassaick Creek.

“This Day of Service represents the culmination of an extraordinary collaborative effort involving Rotary clubs from across the region,” remarked Drew Kessler, Rotary International Director for Rotary Zones 28 & 32. “It’s an unparalleled opportunity for Rotarians and community members to come together and make a tangible impact in the areas where they live and work.”
Peter Sullivan, Governor for Rotary District 7210 in the Hudson Valley, emphasized the far-reaching impact of the initiative, stating, “Literally every community in our state will be impacted by what happens on May 18. Our projects will make a difference where help is needed most.”
Among the local partnerships, the Greater Newburgh Rotary will collaborate with the Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance to address the threat posed by invasive plants to the health of trees previously planted under the NYS DEC “Trees for Tribs” program.

The Mount to present one-man play ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ on May 23
Armed with his list of everything worth living for, a man reviews his traumas and triumphs in Mount Saint Mary College’s presentation of Every Brilliant Thing on Thursday, May 23.

The performance, sponsored by the college’s Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness, will take place at 7 p.m. in the Aquinas Hall Theatre, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh. New Windsor joins Heroes banner program
Supervisor Stephen A. Bedetti proudly announces the launch of the “New Windsor Heroes” Veterans Banner Program.

Rooted in rich history, New Windsor offers families and friends a meaningful way to honor their loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. These banners, commemorating our local heroes, will grace the main traffic corridors of New Windsor, commencing with Union Avenue by Town Hall. Nominees must have served in a branch of the military and either reside or have resided in New Windsor during their lifetime.
“This program has been a goal of mine since I assumed office in January,” Bedetti said. “These banners will enable families to pay tribute to their loved ones while imbuing our main traffic corridors with a sense of hometown pride. Honoring New Windsor Veterans remains a top priority of mine, and I eagerly anticipate the sight of these banners adorning our roads.”
Applications and comprehensive program details can be accessed on the Town of New Windsor website at newwindsor-ny.gov. The banners will be locally printed by Signs by Depew and installed by New Windsor employees. The inaugural group of banners is slated for installation this summer.
