Memorial Day is solemn and sacred and sad, for many Americans observing this holiday.

Often, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops can be found placing American flags or wreaths on the graves, of our fallen military heroes as a way to honor them. But there are also other ways we can pay them homage. We can go to church to offer thanks for the numerous, selfless sacrifices they made on our behalf. We can take out books from the library, to learn more about the remarkable lives of the heroes who died in the line of duty. We can help children write poems about the freedoms they enjoy because they live in America. We can visit nursing homes and speak to folks who served in the military when they were younger, and ask them to share stories about what made some of their military buddies so special. If you have a family member you lost in the line of duty, you can make one of their favorite recipes for friends and neighbors as a way to remember them. Or even just wrap long red, white and blue ribbons around a tree. As long as you remember, to remember this weekend.
