A continuation of a public hearing on the proposed Britain Woods project will be held on Thursday, September 5 at 7 p.m. at Newburgh Town Hall. The project has made several appearances before the Town of Newburgh Planning Board and has met resistance from the surrounding neighbors and general public.
The project proposal consists of a new housing development constructed along Little Britain Road (Route 207). Eleven multi-family buildings (258 units in total) are proposed to be constructed along with a clubhouse, pool and athletic courts, exercise rooms and other multi-purpose facilities.
At the previous meeting in the beginning of August, the public hearing was for the site plan, the special use permit and the draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for the project. Members of the public called into question the data that was collected and used for the project, raised concerns about wildlife in the area and again were concerned about the traffic impacts to 207 and other areas.
