Carl John DiDonato, Jr. of Marlboro passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024 with his family by his side. He was 82.
Carl was born in Newburgh, on April 10, 1941. He was the son of the late Carl John DiDonato, Sr. and the late Filomena "Fannie" Fasulo DiDonato.
Carl was a 1959 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, Newburgh and 1960 graduate of Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science, Syracuse. He served his apprenticeship and worked at Perrott Funeral Home, Newburgh. He later worked for Coloni Funeral Home, New Windsor.
Carl along with his wife Sherry and 3 daughters bought Tuthill Funeral Home from Bob and Dot Osterhout and moved to Marlboro on June 15th, 1974 where he and his wife ran the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc. for 50 years.
Carl was a bus driver for the Diamond D Bus Company, Marlboro, one of the founding members of the Marlboro Chapter of UNICO, a member of the Marlboro Milton Lions Club, he was an usher and member of St. Mary's Church, Marlboro. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past board member of St. Cabrini, a member of the Marlboro Hose Co. #1, a member of the Good Fellowship Dart Ball League, a member of the NYS Funeral Directors Association and a member of the NYS Magistrate Association. Carl was the Town Justice of Marlboro for 20 years from 1981-2001.
He was a loyal NY Giants Fan.
He had successful partnerships with Perrott-DiDonato Funeral Home, Newburgh and DiDonato-Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh where he had the pleasure of working with his very good friend Michael T. Brooks.
Carl is survived by his dedicated wife Sharon "Sherry" DiDonato. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on February 11, 2024. His daughters; Laurene "Lori" Hooper and husband Edward, Tamara "Tami" DiDonato and Terry Elia, Kerstin "Keri" Votta and husband Al. He had 9 grandchildren; Lorenzo Carl Cavazza and wife Cailin, Richard James Cavazza and Carly Lopergolo, Carl John "CJ" Hooper and wife Andrea, Michael Giovanni DiDonato and husband Mitch, Diana Marie Hooper, Justin Michael Votta and wife Bri, Ralph Malone Votta, Marisa Michele Linsig and husband Tyler, Ashley Rose Votta and fiancé Anthony James Amoroso, 4 great grandchildren; Justin Michael "JJ" Votta, Jr., Ryder Carl Votta, Peyton Rose Votta and Miles Edward DiDonato. Carl is survived by his brother Vincent DiDonato and sister in law Rose DiDonato along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 9th from 2-7pm at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday morning at 10:30am at St. Mary's Church, 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro with Reverend Thomas K. Dicks officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
