“Oh listen, Lord, if you want to know
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No not just for some, but for everyone”

Artist: Jackie DeShannon; 1965;
Partial Lyrics

It’s always a warm feeling to receive a message from someone who enjoys reading our family newspaper, the Mid Hudson Times, and the voice on the phone, Judith Armbruster, was very friendly and kind.  Judi was excited to share the good news of introducing a Cooperative Playgroup for our little ones, two-and-three years young.  A retired school teacher, she believes that God wants her to share her talents with our youngest, and what better way to show love and forgiveness, kindness and sharing, than through the golden rules we all learned as children.

Kids-n-Kindness: Gardnertown United Methodist Church, 1191 Union Avenue, Newburgh, is offering a Co-operative Playgroup for 2 and 3-year-old children. Classes will start Tuesday, October 4, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bring a water bottle and small snack.  Register at arm845bru@gmail.com or register by calling Judi, at 845-594-7241 after 6 p.m. No voicemails, please.

A Tisket-A-Tasket, come and win a basket!  Catholic Daughters Court Patricia 195 will hold its 24th Annual Tricky Tray Social, on Friday, October 7, at the William Larkin Center, located at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, 321 South William Street in Newburgh. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and calling will start at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is $5 and includes two sheets of tickets & free dessert.  Additional tickets are available, 50/50 chances, and special table prizes.  Food and beverages will also be available for sale.

There are myriad theme baskets filled with beautiful, practical or fun items for all ages, and hopefully you’ll be lucky to get the perfect surprise. This is CDA’s only fundraising event, and it helps them to support local food pantries and other charitable endeavors.  CDA is grateful for all you do.

The colors of October are red, orange, and gold, and yes, PINK!  We will see people choosing to wear everything pink: pink sneakers and socks, pink shirts and pants, pink hair and hats, pink neckties and feathered boas, all in solidarity to support the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in our area, on Sunday, October 16 at Woodbury Common Outlets, 498 Red Apple Court in Central Valley.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the Walk begins at 9 a.m.  Check out: makingstrideswalk.org/hudsonvalley.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the partnership between New York State United Teachers and the American Cancer Society.  They have raised $16.2 million to support groundbreaking breast cancer research, ensuring quality care and providing critical patient support.

Come and walk with a friend,” stated a volunteer, “and when you walk up, you see a sea of pink.”
May you always have an angel at your side.
