March is Women’s History Month and the Newburgh Free Library will be hosting a series of virtual programs to honor and celebrate the vital role of women in American history.
On Monday March 15 at 6:30 p.m. social historian Dr. Cathleen D. Cahill will give a presentation on her book Recasting the Vote How Women of Color Transformed the Suffrage Movement. Cahill’s book details the lives and work of a multiracial group of heroines and activists who propelled the national suffrage movement toward a more inclusive vision of equal rights. Register for the Zoom link to attend here: www.rebrand.ly/womenshistory.
On Monday March 29 at 6 p.m. the library will be hosting Women in Politics in the Hudson Valley, the latest in our Bridge Talks series of community conversations. Women in Politics in the Hudson Valley, will be an all-female panel discussion featuring a bipartisan group of local elected officials and candidates currently seeking office. Panelists will draw from their personal experiences running for office, and holding office, and give insight into what it is like being a woman in politics in the Hudson Valley. This conversation will be moderated by Dare Thompson from League of Women Voters of the Mid-Hudson Region. Register for the Zoom link to attend at rebrand.ly/hvwomen.
Also, the Tuesday’s at Two Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday March 23 at 2 p.m. to discuss Radium Girls by Kate Moore. Those interested in attending can email librarian Patty Sussmann at psussmann@rcls.org to register.
