The City of Newburgh has won an $8M grant towards construction costs of the new state-of-the-art Delano Hitch Aquatic Center from NYS Governor Kathy Hochul’s NY SWIMS program. With this grant, the City Council will deliver the $15M Delano Hitch Aquatic Center to Newburgh residents at no direct cost to taxpayers. The City Council previously allocated $7M of its American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the project.

“With this $8M grant award from Governor Kathy Hochul’s NY SWIMS program, the Delano Hitch Aquatic Center will be built at no direct cost to City taxpayers,” said City Manager Todd Venning in a prepared statement. “This is an historic day for Newburgh, and we are incredibly grateful for Governor Hochul’s continued investments in our City.”

The new, state-of-the-art Delano Hitch Aquatic Center is the centerpiece of a $120M infrastructure improvement program approved by the Newburgh City Council. Ground was broken on the Aquatic Center in September 2023. The project is proceeding on schedule for a Memorial Day Weekend 2025 grand opening.
