City to host Memorial Day events

Although the City of Newburgh’s Memorial Day parade has been canceled, the following events will be held by the committee.

Saturday, May 29
• A small group of members of the Parade Committee will be distributing staff flags in front of the Newburgh Activity Center, 401 Washington Street from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. noon for decorating the graves of our deceased men and women veterans only.

Sunday, May 30
• Join the Memorial Day Parade members led by David McTamaney, in honoring our deceased veterans as they visit 17 area cemeteries and monuments for wreath laying and services with a color guard. The Motorcade will depart from the former American Legion Hall, 62 Grand Street at 8:30 a.m. and proceed to the area cemeteries to place wreaths and flags.

Monday, May 31, Memorial Day
• Memorial Day services will conclude with the reading of the names of all deceased veterans since World War I at the Orange County Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Liberty Street and LeRoy Place at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2021. Members who would like to read the names of their veterans are most welcome to do so.
