A COVID-19 cluster has been reported at Sapphire Nursing Home. “Sapphire has had 12 resident positives and 3 employee positives, with one resident death in the last two weeks.” This statement was given by The Orange County Department of Health on the morning of November 17. The story broke on the News 12 Westchester website Monday, November 15.

As of November 18, The Orange County Department of Health has reported 59,661 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. A total of 936 deaths have been reported in the county. 56 people are confirmed to be hospitalized with two under investigation. In Newburgh, there are 100 active cases, 90 active cases in New Windsor, and 75 active cases in the City of Newburgh. The numbers are updated every day at 4 p.m. The numbers reported include those from Sapphire Nursing Home.

Sapphire Nursing Home is located on Meadow Hill Road in the Town of Newburgh. Surrounding the complex is Meadow Hill School and other residential homes and complexes. Meadow Hill Road is a side road off of New York Route 300, where significant traffic travels throughout the town and onto the major highway and interstate junctions located in the direct area.

On the Sapphire Nursing Home’s website, it has listed a notice of suspended/restricted visitation, for the time being, to all residents and family members of those in the home.

“The New York State Department of Health conducted an onsite Focused Infection Control Survey at Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill on November 10, 2021. No deficiencies were identified. For more information about COVID-19 cases at the facility, please contact them directly.” This statement was released on Tuesday, November 16 by the New York State Health Department.

The State of New York has mandated the COVID-19 vaccine within assisted living facilities. Sapphire officials have not responded to calls for comment from the Mid Hudson Times.
