A Newburgh man is under arrest after he allegedly shot a woman in what Newburgh City Police are calling a domestic incident.

On April 24 at 5:30 a.m. police received a gunshot notification from Shot Spotter in the area of Montgomery Street and Clinton Street. Officer Jodice was on scene within a minute of the Shot Spotter Notification and attempted to stop a male, later identified to be Anthony Nash, a 34 year-old Newburgh resident.

Nash began to run on foot attempting to evade Officer Jodice. A foot chase ensued through sidewalks, backyards and over fences. Officer Jodice closed the distance and was able to knock Nash to the ground, where he was then apprehended. In the immediate area officers located a loaded 9mm magazine.

While the chase and apprehension of Nash was occurring, police received dispatch of a gunshot victim on Montgomery Street. Officer Scott arrived first and located a female victim with a single gunshot wound to her arm. Officer Scott took emergency action and loaded the victim into her marked police vehicle and transported her to a local Hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Rivera and his K9 partner Bane began a K9 track through the route that Nash fled from Officer Jodice. Sergeant Rivera and K9 Bane tracked to the area of 73 Clinton Street where K9 Bane indicated on an object that was on the ground. Sergeant Rivera recovered a black semi-automatic handgun, specifically a Luger Model C9 9mm handgun, that was missing its magazine. The magazine recovered where Nash was apprehended is the same magazine that would be used in the firearm recovered by Sergeant Rivera and K9 Bane.

Through police investigation it was learned Nash was banging on the front door to the victim’s residence. The victim did not let Nash inside and hoped he would leave. Police said Nash then attempted to make entry into the residence by pushing open a living room window. The victim tried to defend herself and stop Nash from entering her home, at which time Nash pointed the firearm at the victim, shooting her in the arm. Nash then fled the scene on foot.

Nash was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree.
