The Valley Central School District will begin 2023 with a new superintendent leading the district. During the Monday, November 14, 2022, Board of Education Meeting, board members unanimously appointed Evette Avila as the new Superintendent of Schools. Avila will be joining the district on January 1, 2023.

A statement released by the district states, “Ms. Avila’s extensive knowledge and professional background, along with her strong beliefs regarding communication, serving the community and unity made her the unanimous choice of the Board of Education.”

Avila’s appointment comes after an extensive search by the district in conjunction with Orange-Ulster BOCES. Throughout the search, the board collected input from forums with faculty, staff and the community to find the best candidate. Surveys were also collected and utilized as part of the search process.

“I’m honored and thrilled to be selected as the next superintendent of Valley Central School District. I am deeply grateful to the Board of Education for entrusting me to serve such an incredible district,” said Avila. “I am excited to meet the talented and dedicated staff, students, families and community members. I look forward to developing relationships and working collaboratively to continue serving our students in magnificent ways.”

During the meeting, Interim Superintendent of Schools Michael Bellarosa expressed his pleasure regarding Avila’s appointment, “I would like to welcome Ms. Avila as our newly appointed Superintendent of Schools. I want to thank everyone who was a part of this process for all of their hard work and congratulate the Board of Education on making an outstanding decision....We are all very excited to have you join us.”
