Second grade teacher, Ms. Megan Mata was featured on NBC’s The TODAY Show over the summer and received funding for her Zen Den and other school supplies.

She was nominated on a call-out for teachers that go above and beyond. NBC’s The TODAY Show coordinated the virtual surprise for Megan with a $5,000 Amazon gift card gifted to the school in honor of her. 

 So far, Ms. Mata has been able to purchase items for her classroom Zen Den, supplies to help scholars understand and manage their emotions, math kits for students to reuse materials as their learning progresses, and floor desks, so students can easily move around the carpeted area and still be comfortable while learning! 

Mata has worked in the NECSD for 8 years, beginning at Horizons on the Hudson and is now at GAMS.
