Gas and electric

The prospect of banning gas stoves in new construction under the All-Electric Building Act has some New Yorkers reacting as if they will have to give up their entire way of life. And of course the fossil fuel industry is lobbying like crazy against it. But little has been said about using the energy-efficient, electric alternative: an induction stove or cooktop. So I went online to read reviews by people who recently replaced gas with induction. Here are a few:

“We absolutely love our new induction cooktop. It looks and cooks MUCH better than the gas cooktop that it replaced ... AND is healthier for us. What’s not to love about that?”

“After fixing the electric lighters on our gas cooktop multiple times…I thought it was time to change to induction. Getting used to this was a snap!...So easy to clean! Oh and no more clicking.”

“I am very happy with my purchase and I don’t miss my gas range at all. Highly recommend.”

“Induction is faster than and more controllable than gas, which has been my go-to forever.”

“I was hesitant to switch from gas, but I have really loved the way this cooks! And it’s so easy to clean.”

Albany: take note. The All-Electric Building Act needs to go into the one-house budget and become law. It is legislation that will have people asking, why didn’t we do this before?
