Matthew Worrell finished second in the 400-meter dash, leading the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks to a sixth-place finish at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association championships on Saturday at Goshen High School.

The meet began Friday afternoon at Warwick Valley High School.

Worrell finished with a time of 50.33 seconds in the 400.

The Goldbacks’ 400-meter relay team was second in 44.45 and the 1,600-meter team of Anthony Burnett, John Fermpong, David Pinnock and Xavier Williams was fourth in 3:28.18.

Sam Okeyo was third in the discus, reaching 126-2 and Emmanuel Williams was third in the shot put, reaching 44-6.

Xavier Williams was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.18 and Anthony Burnett was seventh with a time of 1:00.51.

Charles Corbin was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.77.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Miles Davis, Devin Batelic, Jordan Hidalgo and Joseph Gaito was fourth in 8:55.73.

Fermpong finished third in the 200-meter dash preliminaries on Friday but did not compete in the semifinals.

Angelisse Diaz led the girls’ team to a 13th place finish when she took sixth in the pole vault, reaching 9-6.

The 400-meter relay team of Isabella Delgado, Sydni Bangari, Alyssa Worrell and Lauren White finished third with a time of 51.02
