Just a month shy of her 102nd birthday, Helen Virginia Strangeway Mennerich, of the Town of Newburgh, left this earth to become an angel in heaven. “Ginny”, as she was known to almost everyone, was born on September 7, 1920 to Loyd and Helen (Roney) Strangeway in Andes, NY.  She grew up on a farm in Treadwell, NY and then attended Delhi College.  While there, she met Arthur Mennerich and they were married on September 28, 1941. They were married for 53 years when he died in 1994. They were blessed with four sons.

Ginny enjoyed a long and productive life. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother to her boys.  When the boys were older she was the school lunch manager for the Newburgh School District at the Gardnertown School. Fostertown and Balmville schools were later added to her responsibilities. She was a member and long- time treasurer of the Gardnertown UMC.  She was active in the United Methodist Women also serving as treasurer. Ginny was also was a Past President and treasurer of American Legion Post 1420 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved being involved with Girls’ State selection and teas. Ginny was an avid knitter. She was famous for her baking. She played bridge into her 80’s and belonged to a Book Club in her 90’s.  But family was the most important thing as she kept track of everyone and what they were doing through Facebook.

Ginny is survived by her sons Kenneth and his wife Beverly, Donald, and Robert.  She was predeceased by her son William. Additionally she is survived by her grandchildren Dana (Penny), Aaron, Shanon (Erica), Brian (Dana), Donald, David (Julia), James (Meghan), Andrew (Samantha) and Thomas (Anna) Mennerich, Amy (Salmon) Muslim, Carrie (Thomas) Burns, and Abby (David) Lorfeld. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Caitlin (Jeremy) Girsch, Cassidy (Aldan) Race, Ashton, Maximilion, Audrey, Daniel, Sophia, Adrian, Bryce, Michelle,  and Peter Mennerich, Thomas, James and Andrew Burns, Samir and Cyrus Muslim and great, great grandchildren Noah and Greyson Girsch and Aldan and Callan Race.

She is also survived by Maureen Mennerich, Kathy Mennerich, Donna Starr and Joanna LaGrande, Her sister-in-law Audrey Strangeway, nieces and a nephew.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son William, her grandson John, her daughter-in-law Sandra and her brothers Richard and Robert Strangeway.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardnertown UMC Organ Fund.

Visitation will be at the White, Venuto, Morrill Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd., Newburgh, NY on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm.  A Funeral Service will be held at the Gardnertown UMC, 1191 Union Ave., Newburgh  on Wednesday, August 17 at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Gardnertown  Cemetery.
