Irene M. Pullar, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, May 31, 2024. She was 79.
Daughter of the late John and Sophie (Gastka) DeTurris, she was born Oct. 17, 1944, in New York City.
Irene was a retired bookkeeper for Hudson Valley Tool, Newburgh. She was a 1962 lettered graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, playing hockey, basketball, bowling, softball, and volleyball. She later received her Associates Degree from Orange County Community College. Irene was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she was also a member of the choir. She was a past President of the Business and Professional Women of Newburgh NY and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Newburgh Y.W.C.A. An avid Mets fan she enjoyed playing sports, especially Tennis and Bowling, QVC, Hallmark, murder mysteries and classic movies.
Survivors include a son, Paul C. (Sherri) Pullar of Walden; a daughter, Catherine (Chris) Brumm of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, George (Dawn) DeTurris of Washington, MD; a granddaughter, Jessica Pullar; brother in law, James Pullar of SC and several nieces and nephews, Bill Pullar, David DeTurris (Donna), Christopher DeTurris (Jamie), Tony DeTurris.
In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Jerome P. Pullar in 2016; a brother, John DeTurris and a sister, Marylou Bosacky, sister in laws, Martha DeTurris, Donna Pullar and niece Nancy Pullar.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am, Thursday, June 6, at the Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at New Windsor Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in Irene’s memory can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan at hospiceoforange.com. Arrangements are under the care of White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh.
