On April 20 at 2:59 p.m., City of Newburgh Police received a call for service alleging a male in a grey Nike hoodie was in possession of a firearm in the area of South Street and Liberty Street. Police responded to the area and located a male matching the description, later identified to be Peter J. Telesco, a 23 year-old Poughkeepsie resident.

Police reported that Telesco began to flee the area on foot while police gave chase in their police vehicles. Telesco led police on a chase through several streets and backyards until he began to run north-bound on Chambers Street. In the area of 155 Chambers Street Sgt. J. Palermo and Lt. B. Rola were able to cut him off.

Telesco then revealed a silver and black firearm from his front hoodie pocket and dropped it to the ground. Police were able to take Telesco down and place him into custody without further incident. Sgt. A. Giudice was able to secure the firearm while Lt. Rola and Officer E. Rivera were placing Mr. Telesco in hand restraints.

The firearm recovered was an SCCY 9mm semi-automatic firearm, model CPX-2, and loaded with 10 rounds in the magazine.

Telesco was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree.
