Mary E. Gilchrist, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, February 19, 2021. She was 98.

She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (McCormick) Maher, born in 1922 in Newburgh.

She was retired from the Civilian Personnel Office at USMA, West Point.

Mary was a member and supporter of the Community Garden Club of Marlborough-on-Hudson, Friend of Orange County Arboretum, Friend of Hill-Hold Museum, and Orange County Historical Society. She was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Patrick’s Church, which her grandparents helped to build.

She is survived by her cousins Frances Rogers, Margaret Rogers Eggleston and her husband Michael, sister-in-law Elizabeth Maher, her nieces and nephews, and dear, devoted friends. 

In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband William A. Gilchrist, brothers Robert Maher, Henry Maher and his wife Dorothy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Church, Newburgh, with Fr. Fernando Hernandez officiating.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s memory can be made to St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen, 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY, 12550.
