New Windsor continues to pursue swimming pool

New Windsor Supervisor George Meyers brought before the town board the discussion about the possibility of looking for land for the creation of a town swimming pool facility. Meyers shared that he has been pursuing a pool in the town for the past two decades.

Meyers stated to the board that he has met with owners/organizers of the New Windsor Little League site, located at 90 Cedar Ave to see if there was an interest from that group in selling the property. Other considerations for a pool site would be at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park. Councilwoman Eve Lincoln, who has spoken with Meyers about the project, also mentioned that the considered site would feature a pool and additional splash pad/park area for the families of the town.

For many years, the town operated a swimming facility at Crestview Lake on Stewart Airport property off Drury Lane. The town had leased the land from the state since the 1970s, but discontinued the practice in 2003 after town officials said it had gotten too expensive to run and the operation was running at a $10,000 deficit.

“We [New Windsor] are aware of the fact that we don’t have a pool. We [New Windsor] are constantly looking for a site,” Meyers said. “I think we’ll definitely come up with the funding, but we need to find the right site.”
