The New Windsor Town Board appointed members to the town’s Hazard Mitigation Committee at their regular meeting Wednesday, August 7. New Windsor Supervisor Stephen Bedetti presented the item on Monday, August 5 for discussion and clarified the hazard mitigation plan for the town is not set to expire until October 2026.
Bedetti announced the members of the committee at the work session which were Councilwoman Sylvia Santiago, Councilman Charles Broe, Police Chief Daniel Valeri, Highway Superintendent Anthony Fayo, New Windsor EMS Chief Michael Bigg, the New Windsor and Vails Gate Fire Department Chiefs, a representative from the fire inspectors office, the supervisor’s office, a safety office, Engineer Michael Weeks and Chief Information Technology Officer John McDonald
According to Bedetti, the last mitigation plan was adopted in 2021 and is a five year plan. The plan is required to acquire Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The cost can range from $20,000 to $30,000 and so further research is required on a price before going to an approval vote.
