Ferry service between the Newburgh Waterfront and the Metro North Train Station in Beacon, is set to resume on August 30. The service was suspended in the spring of 2020, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Orange County Deputy County Executive Harry Porr, a recent appointee to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board, said Monday that he had been contact with Cathy Rinaldi, president of the Metro North Railroad. She confirmed for him that weekday service would resume, with the same rates and schedule that existed prior to the pandemic.

The Newburgh-Beacon Ferry is operated by NY Waterways, and contracted by Metro North Commuter Railroad. It was established when the parking lot at the Beacon Station neared capacity, and proved to be more convenient for many commuters than battling traffic on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and searching for an empty space in the parking lot during the weekday peak commuter time.

Service was halted during the pandemic, when MTA ridership dropped, as people began working remotely rather than commuting into Manhattan. For a time, it was replaced by a shuttle bus connecting the waterfront with the Beacon train station, but that was soon discontinued due to low ridership
The single-trip fares for the ferry are $1.75 for adults, $1 for seniors and children age 6-11 and free for children under 5.
