Newburgh girls struggle against Pine Bush

The Newburgh Free Academy girls’ lacrosse team continued to struggle last week as they suffered a 17-1 loss to Pine Bush on Thursday afternoon at Pine Bush Elementary School.

Pine Bush jumped on the board quickly, getting their first goal nearly four minutes into the game. Over the next four minutes, Pine Bush had a 4-0 lead.

The Goldbacks got on the board with 16:01 remaining in the first half on a goal by Michelle Prado, off an assist from Mikayla Podlas.

However, Pine Bush went on another scoring flurry between the 13:28 mark and the 9:55 mark to take a 9-1 lead. Julia Conn’s goal with about 9 seconds left in the first half, set up a second half that had running clock.

Sam Budney led Pine Bush with three goals and three assists and Brigid Boyle had two goals and three assists. Ella Meberg had two goals and two assists and Sophia Licardi had two goals and one assist. Julia Corin had two goals and Grace Duffy had one. Antonia Licardi also had one goal. Amanda Watkins added three goals.

Mackenzie Brown had one goal and one assist.

The Goldbacks finished the week with a home match against the James I. O’Neill Raiders.

Previously the Goldbacks had won two games, beating Middletown on April 8, 4-3, and then they posted an 18-0 non-league victory over Yonkers during Spring Break.

Newburgh was scheduled for a rematch with Middletown on Monday.
