A Newburgh man convicted of murdering a family in their home in 2020 was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole.

Kaliek Goode-Ford, 35, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown after a jury found him guilty in January on all charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with physical evidence.

Prosecutors said Goode-Ford entered a home in the Town of Newburgh and fatally shot a man, his wife, and their 9-year-old son. A 3-year-old boy was also shot but survived. After the shooting, Goode-Ford threw the pistol and magazine used in the crime into the Hudson River, authorities said.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler praised the work of the Town of Newburgh Police Department, New York State Police, the FBI, and the New York State Police Dive Team, which assisted in the investigation.

“A prison sentence nothing short of forever is the only acceptable sentence in this case and, thankfully, was the one imposed,” Hoovler said. “It is not often that, as prosecutors, we encounter defendants whose conduct is truly irredeemable, but the evil exhibited by this defendant is unparalleled.”

Hoovler commended Chief Trial Assistant District Attorney Richard Moran and Assistant District Attorney Christine Maggiore for prosecuting the case.
