Devin Batelic finished 18th leading the Newburgh Free Academy boys’ cross-country team to a ninth-place finish at the Section 9 Class A championship race on Thursday at Bear Mountain State Park.

Cornwall’s Jeremy Jean-Charles won the race in 15:50.5.

The Goldbacks’ Brady Danyluk was 38th and Khaliyl Muhammad and Joseph Gaito were 45th and 47th. Joseph Santo was 52nd and Emanuel Alfaro was 57th. Matthew Mansilla was 73rd.

The girls’ team finished eighth with 219 points, behind a 36th-place finish by Donasia Cheatham. Julia Coyle was 41st and Mary Jane Politi was 44th. Alexandra Swink was 51st and Riley Geis was 57th. Sara McMurtrie was 61st and Inez O’Shea was 65th.
