NW eyes pickleball court

The New Windsor Town Board opened the discussion up during their regular work session on the possibility of having pickleball courts brought into the town. Councilman Stephen Bedetti has been working on this particular project following requests from community members for courts.

According to Bedetti, he has been in contact with Recreation Director Matt Veronesi about these courts in the town. Visits have been taken to the Town of Newburgh and Cornwall, Plum Point Condos, Cronomer Park, Monarch Drive in Newburgh and Joseph Ruscitti Park in New Windsor where pickleball courts are currently being used by town residents and other visiting players.

Following a visit to Cornwall, Bedetti had the opportunity to play the game and relayed to the board that a tennis court type of surface would be better to play on if the town considers this project as blacktop courts can damage the balls used in the game. With several tennis courts already in the town, the town could consider painting pickleball court lines on the existing tennis courts that would be a reasonable investment for the town.
