The Quassaick Creek Fest, a free community event open to all ages, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various locations along the Quassaick Creek in Newburgh.

The festival promises a day of play along the waterway, featuring free food, music, dancing, games, and nature education. The event is hosted in partnership with multiple organizations, including the Brain and Body Coalition, the DEC Hudson River Estuary Program, and the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy.

Activities will kick off at 9 a.m. at Crystal Lake, 61 Temple Ave., with a Learn to Fish program hosted by the Brain and Body Coalition and a Snake Hill Hike led by Outdoor Promise. Both activities require registration. At 11 a.m., attendees can join a Movement Workshop at the Sanctuary Healing Farm & Gardens.

At Muchattoes Lake, 45 Lake Drive, the Newburgh Rowing Club and the Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance will offer a paddling event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additionally, the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program will host an electrofishing demonstration from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The festivities will culminate with a Creek Fest Community Party from noon to 3 p.m. at The Patio Restaurant, 190 Lake St. The party will feature live performances by Ayo Nish!, DJ H20, and the Moonlight Initiative. Attendees can also enjoy face painting, games, and community art projects led by Stefanie Singer, as well as activities to explore the local ecosystem and envision the future of the Quassaick Creek Greenway.

The Quassaick Creek Fest is an opportunity for the Newburgh community to celebrate and connect with the natural beauty of the Quassaick Creek.
