Hello New Windsor. Happy Memorial Day to everyone. I know many people look at Memorial Day as a holiday that kicks off the summer with barbecues and trips to the beach but please let us not forget that it is a day to honor and pay our respects to all those who paid the ultimate price of their life for our country. May God bless all the men and women who served and sacrificed, as well as their families who have also sacrificed.

The Town of New Windsor Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade were held on Sunday, May 21 and both events went smoothly. The ceremony was well attended. Sgt Major Mary Kay Messenger was on hand to sing the National Anthem and God Bless America, and the Guest Speaker was Alan Mack, a Chinook Helicopter Pilot who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq having received numerous medals for his service and bravery.

Councilman Stephen Bedetti received the Nicholas Brooks Service Award for service towards New Windsor. The parade route was lined with people waving flags out to support all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to their country. It was a beautiful parade on a beautiful day. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our veterans. All who marched in the parade were treated to hot dogs and soft drinks from the Recreation Department at the end of the parade route.

On Wednesday, May 31 the Recreation Department will be taking a bus trip down to Citi Field to see the New York Mets take on the Philadelphia Phillies in a night game. The bus leaves the New Windsor Town Hall Complex at 4 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game. The seats are located on field level section 124. The price of the trip is $100 which includes bus ride and ticket to the game.

To sign up you can visit the Recreation Department website at nwrecisfun.com or call the Recreation Department office at 845-565-7750.

The Town of New Windsor will be hosting its second Farmers Market of the season on Saturday June 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the New Windsor Town Hall Complex Lawn by the gazebo.

The first event was held on Saturday May 13, and there was a good turnout. The Farmers Market will be held twice a month through October, with 11 total markets. There is some space still available; for anyone who is interested in becoming a vendor, please reach out to the Town of New Windsor Recreation Department by calling 845-565-7750 or email Recreation Director Matt Veronesi at mveronesi@newwindsor-ny.gov if you are interested.

The Town of New Windsor has open registration for our Summer Camp program for ages 3-12. In years past there were two separate locations to choose from but this year we have combined the camp locations into one and camp will be exclusively taking place at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park as the park is big enough to accommodate the numbers from both locations.

The Summer Camp program starts on Wednesday, July 5 (no camp on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 because of the holiday) and will go to Friday, August 11. Camp prices are $80 a week for New Windsor Residents and $125 a week for non-residents. The first week will be prorated since it is shortened due to the holiday. The preschool camp for ages 3-5 will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, and the camp for ages 6-12 will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early drop off and late pick-up are available for an additional cost.

For more information or to register for camp please visit nwrecisfun.com or call the Recreation Department at 845-565-7750.

The Town of New Windsor Nancy Pullar Summer Concert Series is set to begin on Wednesday June 28 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. with the band Hillbilly Parade performing. Concerts are held on the Town Hall Lawn by the gazebo. Hillbilly Parade is a dance pop, country party band. With their witty humor, ridiculous props, and down-home costumes will have you out of your seat and singing along.

Birthday shout outs this week go to Stacy Clavette, Evan Turenchalk, and Kara Stahli whose birthdays are on May 26, to Jaden Rosario whose birthday is on May 27, to Brady Keenan whose birthday is on May 28, and to anyone else out there celebrating birthdays this week, happy birthday!

If anyone has a birthday or other special event you want mentioned in my column, or have anything going on in New Windsor that you want the world to know about you can reach me at mveronesi@optimum.net or by calling 845-629-1260.

Have a great week.
