Richard E. Kurisko of Maybrook, NY, formerly a longtime resident of New City, NY, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was 99 years old.
A veteran of WWII, he served in Italy between 1943 and 1946 as an Infantry Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Wm. E. DeBevoise Jr. American Legion Post 1682 in New City, NY, for more than 60 years. Dick’s greatest joy was singing harmony as a member of the Rockland County Barbershop Harmony Society for more than 42 years. He performed as tenor in the Muddy Creek 4 barbershop quartet and as the tenor in the Suffern Cats. Dick was also a CYO Advisor at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in New City, serving the young people in the community for many years. Richard was a Master Plumber and Pipefitter who took great pride in his work. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local Union 373 for more than 70 years.
Richard was the son of the late John Kurisko and Frances Kovalsky Kurisko. He was born January 18,1925 in what was referred to as the Mudhole section of Haverstraw, NY. He was the widower of Miriam Cordwell Kurisko who died March 29, 1998 and later Jean Baker Kurisko, as of February 18, 2007. He was the last survivor of three brothers and a sister. Richard is survived by his daughter Dianne Scott, his son Richard Kurisko Jr, and his wife Lois, his son Peter Kurisko and his wife Lillian, all residing in Montgomery. Also survived by his daughter Kathleen Kriessler and her husband Geoff of Mint Hill, North Carolina. He will also be missed by Jean’s children, Susan Baker Ross and her husband Frank and John Baker and his wife Barbara and their children. Richard was predeceased by his grandson Christopher Scott and is survived by grandchildren April Caro, Jared Kurisko, Richard C. Kurisko, Timothy Kurisko, Rhiannon Kriessler Distaso, Tiffany Kriessler Britt , Jesse Kriessler, Jesse Kurisko, Nicholas Kurisko and Adam Kurisko. Richard is also survived by five great grandchildren, Carter Kriessler, Aedan Caro, Autumn Caro, Anthony Kurisko and Everleigh Kurisko, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church, 140 Maple Ave., New City.
Interment of ashes will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, 36 W Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954.
