Robert L. Gillespie, Sr., of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, February 11, 2021. He was 101.

The son of Perry Lee and Ethel May (Scott) Gillespie, he was born on November 1, 1919 in Blue, Missouri.

Robert was the retired owner and operator of Gillespie and Sons, Inc., Newburgh. A longtime area resident, he proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He was a private pilot, raised racing pigeons, and was the all around handyman to many in need up and down the east coast during his travels.

The family would like to thank the wonderful team of caring and loving people who helped Robert follow through with his wishes.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. Gillespie, Jr. of Wallkill; four grandchildren, Jason and his wife Jodi Gillespie, Robert Gillespie, lll, Morley Gillespie and Scott Gillespie; two great grandchildren, Colten and Ryan; and a daughter-in-law Bernadette Gillespie.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife, Ethel (Morley) Gillespie; and two sons, William Gillespie and Gary A. Gillespie and daughter-in-law Connie Gillespie.

Memorial Visitation will take place 5  to 7 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh

Due to the continued public health concerns, please know that there is an occupancy limitation which may cause a wait time, please be respectful of your time visiting. Facial covering must be worn in the funeral home at all times, and social distancing must be practiced.

Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Hill Mausoleum.
