Roy Wilbur Ploss, age 88, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, long time resident of Newburgh.
Mr. Ploss was born February 5, 1935 in Hackensack, NJ to Harry and Sylvia Barthelmess Ploss. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. Roy was the retired President of Norman Bros. Moving and Storage in Newburgh.
Roy was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and former member of Walton Engine & Hose Fire Company and American Legion Orange Blossom Post in Chester, NY. He also was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed woodworking and built his own house in Lake Bomoseen, Vermont.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Jane Austin Ploss, a son Donald W. Ploss (Pamela); three daughters, Debra J Vent (Craig), Diane R. Stears (Mark), Donna L. Vargetto (Sal); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Decker; a sister-in-law, Phyllis DeWitt and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Doreen Clark and grandson, Austin Vent.
Services will be private in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church, 120 South St. of Newburgh, N. Y. 12550
