Ruth Ann Duncan Scott, 77, of Newburgh  passed away Friday, January 8 at her home in Middle Hope NY among her family. 

She was born, January 25, 1943 in Teaneck NJ, the daughter of Arthur & Margaret Duncan.  She graduated from Suffern High School, pursued her B.S. in Chemistry at Orange County Community College and City College, and attended Texas Woman’s University where she earned her M.S. degree in Physical Chemistry.  After graduating, Ruth was selected by Boeing to work on NASA contracts to develop the swing arm assembly for the Apollo Saturn 5B rocket engine in Hunstville, AL.  Ruth worked much of her adult life as an analytical research chemist for many large companies including Rouche, Chevron-Texaco, and Kraft Foods before retiring in 2005.  Ruth was married to her loving husband Robert M. Scott of Newburgh, NY in 1971 and was a devoted mother of two children.  Ruth was an avid reader and supporter of Marlboro Free Library.  Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, baking, nature, and photography.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family and many pets and travelling the country with her husband in their Airstream travel trailer during their retirement.  Ruth is predeceased by her brother William Duncan.  She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Margaret and husband Kraig Kilpatrick, son Michael and wife Krista Scott along with her grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Andrew & Matthew, sister in law Carol Duncan & nephew William Duncan.

  All services will be private but the family is planning a future celebration of Ruth’s life to be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to Marlboro Free Library, P.O. Box 780, Marlboro NY 12542 or Hudson Valley SPCA, 940 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor NY 12553.
