The Town of Newburgh-New Windsor Senior baseball team was one win away from making a return trip to the New York State tournament, heading into Tuesday.

Newburgh-New Windsor was scheduled to face District 20 champion White Plains on Saturday, but White Plains did not have enough players to compete. The Charter Committee directed the game to be played Tuesday at the Town of Newburgh Little League Complex.

A win Tuesday would send Newburgh-New Windsor on a return trip to the New York State, starting Monday at Half Hollow Hills Little League on Long Island.

Newburgh-New Windsor came within two wins of winning the state championship last year before being eliminated.

The Newburgh-New Windsor Minors and Major teams also opened tournament play last week.

The Minors beat Middletown and the Majors fell to Pine Bush.

In the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League, the 16U Newburgh Red Storm posted three wins, including an 8-1 win over the Heat.

Liam Lynch threw five innings and struck out eight. Jaysean Ayala had four hits and threw two innings of relief. Xavier McKnight and Liam Clark combined for six hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The High School division team continued to win, posting three more victories.

They swept the Heat, 12-8 and 13-4.

Dom Rosso won the first game and had two hits and 5 RBIs. Adrian Segura had a hit, and drove in two runs, while scoring two. Matt Segali and Tim Feeney combined for five hits and four RBIs.

John Eliadis won Game 2 with five innings without allowing an earned run. Nick Paretta doubled and drove in three. Feeney had two hits and five RBIs, while John Andryuk had two hits and an RBI.

The offense continued to roll with a 25-8 win over the Stony Point Patriots. Feeney homered and drove in four. Segali had two hits and three RBIs. Paretta, Eliadis and Adam Fuentes each drove in two runs each. Adrian Segura and Rafael Garcia scored three runs each. Every hitter scored at least one run.
