Dea Vitale
Greetings from River City. Millions of us will either have voted or will be voting this week and I believe that the fate of our nation, perhaps the world will be decided, for years. Say a prayer when you cast that vote. I pray we get it right.
Newburgh Poet Laureate Genie Abrams’ new book of poetry, “Pretty Nearly All Natural,” published by Finishing Line Press, is now available at Newburgh’s Golden Hour Bookstore,181 Broadway. Folks who buy the book from proprietor Angie Venezia will be supporting this great business, one of the few locally owned bricks-and-mortar bookstores in the area – as well as getting themselves a terrific, fun read.
Of course, you can also buy it through Amazon or Barnes and Noble ($17.99), but if you like buying online, go instead to goldenhourbookstore.com! I remember how much I enjoyed going to privately owned bookshops with their areas of old books wherein treasures lay… Congratulations, Genie!
A 7-week series called “The Search” will be held on Monday nights starting October 28 and ending December 9. It will be held in the Valastro Center from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
From St. Francis of Assisi Church: “THANK YOU to the hundreds of people who attended our ‘Coming Together in Truth’ Fellowship Event. It was wonderful seeing your support for our Churches even though the weather was a bit iffy. Our Lord gifted us enough dry weather for the kids to have fun outside in the grass. And a giant thank you to all who supported and helped make this event possible throughout this 6 month planning, as our small group of 5 couldn’t have done it without all of you.”
“A very special thank you to Fr. Fernando for his support of this event, for our additional speakers, Msgr. Peter, Fr. Giuseppe, Fr. Francis and the Tapia family, as well as our musical groups of Peter Mahoney and Joanne Accolla, Coro Renacer En El Espititu and the children of our religious education with the expert professional sound system of Mark Gamma. The Holy Spirit was truly with us all. God Bless – Your Catholic Church in Newburgh Group.”

We have seen so much real hatred spewed out from some people that it is truly disgusting and dangerous. “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them, because we hate them.” - C. C. Colton. “Hate is a fire that consumes the altar upon which it burns.” - James Lendall Basford (1882). “Voting is a civic sacrament, which should not be exercised carelessly.” --William F. Buckley, Jr. I close, as always, with my prayers for God’s blessings on your heads, my dears.
