The St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System Foundation held its annual gala on Oct. 19 at West Hills Country Club in Middletown, raising a record $331,000 in net proceeds. Themed “A Night of Pure Imagination,” the event marked the highest fundraising total in the foundation’s history. Proceeds will support priority needs at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC), benefiting patients and the broader community.

The gala honored three individuals for their exceptional contributions to the community. Dr. Constantine Vardopoulos received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his years of service as a psychiatrist at St. Luke’s Hospital and his longstanding commitment to the region. Dr. Vardopoulos began his career with an internship at St. Luke’s, later opening a private practice in Newburgh, N.Y., and operating the Craig House in Beacon, N.Y.

David Potack, president of Unitex and former MSLC Board of Trustees chairman, was awarded the Healthcare Impact Award. Potack’s dedication to MSLC and the Newburgh area, particularly during his tenure as board chair through the COVID-19 pandemic, was noted for its lasting positive impact.

The Sonata Group received the Community Commitment Award for its work in economic and community development. Owners Keith and Anne Perez were recognized for their dedication to MSLC’s mission and the community, reflecting a shared commitment to local health care and well-being.

“This was our first gala in five years due to the pandemic, and I am so proud of the overwhelming support from the community,” said Daniel Maughan, MSLC president and CEO. “With our partners, employees, medical staff, and generous donors, we are building a brighter future for Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall and the communities we serve.”
