St. Thomas Church sponsors huge record sale

Hello New Windsor. Christmas time is always a very special time of year. But too often the true meaning of Christmas gets lost in all of the decorations, presents, celebrations etc. Everyone is so busy running around and they tend to forget that the true meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus. Out of gratitude of that love we remember Jesus’s birth by giving each other gifts, worshiping Him, and hopefully being conscious of those that are less fortunate.

There is always something that we can do to honor that love that God showed for us whether it is helping a family in need around the holidays, or doing a random act of kindness for stranger. Recently on the way to work I went to the drive thru lane at Dunkin Donuts and ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and a hot tea. My order came out to $9.11. As I got up to the window and I went to pay the gentleman working the counter told me the car ahead of me had paid my bill. I had heard of stories of people doing that before but it had never happened to me. So I told the cashier that I would like to pay for the car behind me. And he said the amount was $4.50.

I felt bad that what I was paying for was less that my own order was so I told him I would pay for the next car too. Little did I know that that car had a big order of $24. I hesitated for a second and I am sure the cashier wouldn’t have judged me if I decided not to pay for that order since it was so big, but I thought about it and realized I am not doing this to have anyone judge me, I am doing it because it is an act of kindness, one that someone had done for me, and I wanted to pay it forward, so I paid for that big order too.

I am not sure if that gesture made the day of whoever were in those two cars, I know I was touched by having someone pay for my order, and whether or not they would be touched I did not care I was just glad that I could do something good for someone else. So take this as a challenge and do a random act of kindness for someone this holiday season.

Merry Christmas to you and your families if you celebrate, and may God Bless you and your families.

Because Christmas falls on a Saturday, the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church Thrift Store will be closed on December 25. Instead next week December 22-23 from 3 - 6 p.m. the church will be having a huge record sale. A parishioner had a huge collection donated to them and so the records are being sold, with proceeds going to the church. There’s a wide range of music and spoken word albums, with more than 1000 records to look at! Some of the album’s cover art is nice for decor too.

St. Thomas will have a Christmas Eve Celebration at 7:30 p.m. with Evening Prayer, followed by a small reception, ending with a gentle compline. Although resources are tight and they are not able to have a priest this year, but we are still relishing in the Joy and Miracles of the Season together as a congregation, and everyone is invited to come, as you are, fuzzy Christmas Pajamas and all, to sing and pray to welcome The Savior.

Solid Rock Church, at 20 Holloran Road, New Windsor will hold a special Christmas Eve service at 4 p.m. Experience a special retelling of the Christmas story through a multimedia caroling and drama presentation! Register at srcog.churchcenter.com to let them know you’re coming.

At King of Kings Lutheran Church, 543 Union Avenue, New Windsor, you have a choice of in-person or live-streamed Christmas services. Christmas Eve services, with communion, will take place at 4 and again at 7 p.m.

A Christmas Day service, with communion will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Visit the church website at kofk.com to livestream the services.
