Steven L. Rodriguez, of Wallkill, formerly of Forest Hill, Queens, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was 67.

Son of Josephine (Russo) Rodriguez and the late Louis Rodriguez, he was born on February 20, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY.

“Steve” as he was known to friends and family was a retired Highway Patrolman with NYPD, Highway 3, Queens, NY. He proudly served his country with the US Navy. He was a member of the National Lodge of Fraternal Order of Police, the NYS Fraternal Order of Police Jason Conklin memorial Lodge # 975, Orange County, NY, Post # 632 of the American Legion. He also had a love for motorcycles and aviation. Steve was a proud member of the NYPD assigned to Transit district 4, the 13th pct, and the elite Highway Patrol Unit # 3 based in Queens county. 

During his service with NYPD he heroically responded on that fateful day of 9/11 and assisted in the saving of many civilian lives including saving many lives of his fellow police officers with him during the collapse of both towers on that tragic day. His response for many days and months after that day providing escorts to Families of the deceased officers, and providing numerous escorts and bereavement support for both uniform and no -uniform responders.  For several months after the attacks on the twin towers he was involved in many response and recovery efforts at ground zero.  

Steve succumbed to his 9/11 related cancer due to his response and heroic efforts on that fateful day.

Survivors include his wife Trudy Campbell-Rodriguez, his mother of Jacksonville, FL; sons, Mark (Mary) Rodriguez of Atlanta, GA, Justin (Camille) Rodriguez of New York, NY and Rick (Patty) Dombowski of Queens, NY; a brother Kevin (Jean) Rodriguez of PA; a sister Valerie (Charles) Leister of Orange Park, FL; grandchildren, Frank and Lucy and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will take place Monday, June 14, 20201 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Tuesday, June 15, 20201 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Plattekill, NY with Fr. Michael Michael Omachi officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Orange County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
