On the afternoon of May 12th, State Police Liberty initiated a pursuit of a vehicle that recklessly navigated through and over fire hoses in Liberty. Troopers diligently pursued the vehicle, heading east on Route 17 to Interstate 84. However, the pursuit was terminated along Interstate 84’s eastbound lanes.
Subsequently, State Police Middletown issued a BOLO (Be On the LookOut) for the vehicle, believed to be traveling eastbound on Interstate 84. A trooper sighted the vehicle and trailed it to exit 37, where it veered eastward toward the City of Newburgh. Briefly losing sight of the vehicle, the trooper eventually located it on Carpenter Ave.
The trooper successfully halted the vehicle’s progress and called for backup. Responding to the scene were State Troopers from City and Town of Newburgh, as well as the Orange County District Attorney’s Investigator. State Police Aviation provided aerial support during the operation.
Following the apprehension, two individuals were taken into custody, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation. Carpenter Ave was temporarily closed as authorities conducted their inquiries.
