Unison welcomes Marc Von Em: blues, folk & funk

Posted

Marc Von Em is a singer, songwriter, musician and composer based in Northeast Pennsylvania. His soulful sound, driven by skilled acoustic guitar playing and a smooth, rich voice, flows easily between blues, folk and funk.

Von Em is a one man band of sorts, able to create an impressive array of music with just his voice and one faithful guitar. His chops are wide-ranging from delicate finger picking to raw, rambunctious strumming. Marc’s guitar serves as more than one instrument as he uses it to create percussive beats and atmospheric sounds. His dynamic voice can go from smooth and soaring to smoky scatting. Marc’s harmonica playing is equally impressive, and he sometimes uses it to accompany his blues influenced original songs. His soulful live performances showcase his original music, influenced by folk, funk and blues, with a few choice cover songs woven in. As one reviewer wrote: “If you haven’t seen Marc Von Em perform live you’re only cheating yourself.”

Marc performs mostly solo, showcasing his original music on guitar with occasional looping, harmonica and other instrumentation added in. He has independently released five full length recordings and has toured the U.S. both as a headliner and supporting act promoting his catalog. In early 2022 Marc released his latest recording “Goodbye, Cloudy Sky” which he is presently showcasing at venues throughout the Northeast.

In addition to writing and performing as an indy artist, Marc is proud to have shared the stage with Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) as backup vocalist and guitarist on three world tours. He is currently signed to Pure Pop Music Publishing Inc. as a songwriter for current and up and coming musical acts, VAMNation Entertainment Management, as a vocalist on globally broadcast commercials, and HAUS Music NYC, collaborating with musicians, composers, producers, bands and publishers scoring soundtracks for movie and commercial use.

He will be performing Saturday, 7-9 p.m. at Unison Arts Center, 68 Mountain Rest Road, New Paltz. General admission tickets are $25.
