Work approved for Dutch Reformed Church

The Newburgh City Council approved the execution of an asbestos and lead abatement plan for the Dutch Reformed Church [DRC] that will be conducted by Quality Environmental Solutions & Technologies, Inc. (QUES&T) in the amount of $44,770.

According to City Engineer Jason Morris, Morris stated that the city council had approved QUES&T to conduct lead and asbestos testing in the DRC, and the results of those tests have found asbestos and lead in the building, which have put stabilization efforts on hold.

With the creation of an asbestos and lead abatement plan through QUES&T, additional subcontractors who specialize in historic preservation will be present on-site to ensure proper historical material storage and disposal. A subcontractor will also need to be brought in to address structural integrity to allow a lift to abate the asbestos.
