“All in all, it was a great weekend.”
Those were the words of Highland Falls Mayor Jim DiSalvo last week, days after the conclusion of a three-day festival celebrating the 120th birthday of the Village of Highland Falls. It ran from October 2-4.
And because it was fairly well attended and appeared to have been enjoyed by all who were there, there’s already talk about doing it again next year, and in all the years to come as the village gears up for birthday number 125 in 2031.
“Not as big next year, but the committee has already talked about doing maybe a one-day celebration next year,” the mayor said. “Then, again in five years, we can go big again.
The weekend featured five concerts (Shan Scott, Al Sapienza & Deborah Rennard, Whiskey Crossing, River of Dreams and Hurley Mountain Highway), numerous food trucks (several of which sold out on Saturday); a ‘kids’ zone’ on Fickens Field with bounce houses, activities and giveaways; a Harvest Festival where residents dropped off their best home-gown, homemade or handcrafted goods that were judged; the Main St. parade; and fireworks.
DiSalvo thanked the committee members – Tierney Kain, Tiana Grehenov, Village Clerk Heidi Johnson, Trustee Jen Gargiulo and Jeannette Scott – for their hard work for several months, as well as the donors, sponsors and vendors. He also thanked local emergency services, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus’ office for their support.
FYI: There are still t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale (stop by Village Hall – they’re $20 for a t-shirt and $25 for a sweatshirt).
