Army West Point senior pitcher Andrew Berg has earned an opportunity to continue his baseball career with the Chicago White Sox organization as an undrafted free agent.
Berg, a 2026 Second Team All-Patriot League selection, was one of the key contributors to an Army team that won the Patriot League regular-season championship and finished 28-20 overall and 17-9 in conference play.
The Conroe, Texas, native made 13 appearances in 2026, all starts, and led the Black Knights with a 4.03 ERA, 82 2/3 innings pitched and 58 strikeouts. Ten of his starts lasted at least six innings, including five of seven innings or more.
Berg capped his Army career with a strong performance against rival Navy on May 2, pitching nine innings and allowing one earned run while striking out six. Army went on to win the game in 13 innings.
After graduating from West Point in May, Berg joined the MLB Draft League’s Trenton Thunder, making 15 appearances and posting a 0.75 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 24 innings.
Berg is the 25th West Point graduate to accept an opportunity with a Major League Baseball organization. His older brother, Derek Berg, a 2024 West Point graduate, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Two of Berg’s former Army teammates, Tanner Gresham and Sam Ruta, also received professional opportunities as undrafted free agents with the Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals, respectively.
Berg’s signing comes after a successful 2026 season for Army, which captured the Patriot League regular-season title and earned the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Baseball Championships. The Black Knights also defeated Navy in Annapolis in the final series of the regular season.
Army had five players named to the All-Patriot League First or Second Teams. Josiah Overbeek was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year, while Thomas Schreck earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Overbeek also was named ECAC Player of the Year and received multiple regional and national honors.
Chris Barr joined Schreck and Overbeek on the All-Patriot League First Team, while Berg and outfielder William Parker were named to the second team. Barr and Schreck also were selected to the Patriot League Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team.
Army won two Patriot League Tournament titles and three regular-season championships during Berg’s four years with the program. The Black Knights also went 3-1 against Navy in the Star Series during that span.
